Country
Reports on Human Rights Practices, Kuwait - 2001 (Bureau of Democracy,
Human Rights, and Labor of U.S. Department of State):
"Citizens do not have the
right to change their Government ... Women are denied the right
to vote (see Section 3). Their testimony is not given equal weight
to that of men in the family courts (see Section 1.e.). Married
women require their husbands' permission to obtain a passport (see
Section 2.d.). By law only men are able to confer citizenship; therefore,
children born to citizen mothers and stateless fathers are themselves
stateless."
